My first post...

Well, having watched the masters of all blogging entertain us for years with their accounts of their comings and goings, I too, have decided to enter the world of the blogger. It has occured to me that little do we know, when we write about the annoyances, pleasures and tender mercies of everyday life, that we are really writing history and, one day, people will go to our blogs and record data about the everyday lives of those people of the noughties. It's a splendid thought really, to think that we are recording history- that we, as individuals are making records for the generations to come to look back on.

I can well imagine that this blog of mine will be less about my life and more of my ramblings and observances but, I hope, it will be interesting to read, nonetheless.

So, ever wondered what it's like to have swine flu? Well, take my advice. Don't. Don't wonder, don't imagine. Don't even ponder on the possibilities because that is what I did when I discovered that my friend had it. A week later, I was tele-diagnosed with it by a woman who also asked me if I was unconcious or unresponsive. What do you say when somebody asks you that question? "Erm...yes. I am a high-functioning unconcious person who managed to not only dial the number but hold a conversation." Am I choking? Erm...no. Excuse me? Am I having a fit or a seizure? hmmm....can I get back to you on that one? I understand that if there was a person calling on your behalf, those questions might be appropriate but really.... Would you really think "Oh no! they look like they're having a seizure! Who should I call? I know! The Swine Flu Pandemic hotline!!" But of course...

There is nothing remotely glamorous about being quarantined either. Did you know that in the rule books of warfare, a Quarntine or a blockade is an official act of war? Well, boy to I feel it!!! I am being passively attacked by everyone walking past my bedroom window smiling and laughing as they frolic in the dreary Lancastrain weather and I think to myself, after 4 days in the same four walls, what it is to breathe the air or to feel the rain.... ahhh...

Things aren't really that desperate. It's nice to have a chance to lie in bed for a bit longer or to afford myself the luxury of watching a few chick flicks! I also have fabulous friends who run to and fro for me, who fetch Big Macs and deposit them outside my door...they are truly wonderful people!!

So, Tomorrow is my last day in this room. I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Hurrah!
